In parallel with the main program, the course is split into three learning tracks: OBSERVATION, UX/UI, and DEVELOPMENT. Each participant has to commit to one, but can attend all three of them. Read about what participants learned in each track below:
👀 The Observation Track led by anthropologist Justin Pickard, introduces a buffet of observation tools and methods, taking into account the program’s relatively short timing. Through presentations, readings, and mentoring, Justin helps to identify the most pertinent approaches based on the community of choice. Approaching social networks more holistically by looking at humans rather than users requires methods that extend beyond traditional user experience research and iterative testing.

👾 Blockchain artist and software developer Sarah Friend looks after the Development Track. Sarah’s students explore notions around decentralization, the blockchain and the web of trust. While the program’s aim is to produce proofs-of-concept—rather than actual functional alpha versions of the program—the proposed ideas should take recent technological developments into account. Navigating through media art, distributed web initiatives, and emerging technological paradigms embodied through hands-on activities, Sarah disentangles the complexities of Web3 and helps make sense of it.
